it makes it sound like the gembonded rose up against cairngorm was i wrong in thinking that cairngorm failed to ascend of their own accord?? b/c this implies otherwise
Actually, I recently read an account that indicated that Cairngorm was assassinated. The names in this recording are new to me, but the events it depicts match up with the mentions I saw of Cairngorm's death.
I don't have the tome anymore, but you can have a look at my notes on it if you're interested.
now i'm even more confused. i don't see how tanda being excommunicated for (theoretically) being romantically involved with the deity... leads to the deity being assassinated?
but it's hard to imagine these events are completely disconnected, because i feel like a lot of us would have something to say if something happened to aurora nyx. but i would take that up with the gems, not malachite...
I don't know that the former necessarily caused the latter, at least not directly.
Look at it this way. If Aurara Nyx were to be suddenly banished, that would result in a certain amount of upheaval within the gem government, and probably public backlash as well. It's the sort of thing that an extremist group might take advantage of if they wanted to assassinate a powerful figure.
ok but back on topic. so the working theory, then, would be gems are distracted with politics, fringe gembonded group seizes on the opportunity to do what they've wanted to do all along? and then in doing so, they doomed themselves...
hmmmm i guess that would make sense. the general gembonded community is still a black box though... i don't get why we have to go through illicit channels to get this info that tbqh i think we're entitled to.
It's entirely possible, though of course the information we have about the situation is woefully incomplete.
Why do you say we're entitled to it, though? We're aliens here, and it isn't as though the local government invited us. Really, we don't have any rights that they don't choose to grant us.
yeah but we're not guests, we didn't just decide to come here for funsies. we were basically kidnapped and... you know i make the best of it as much as anyone, but that's still the truth.
and if they want us to help their god ascend, don't you think we deserve to know what the previous cohorts did or didn't do? so that we don't make their mistakes, and so that we can do whatever they did right. keeping it from us is like saying, i want you to prove quantum mechanics but you can't read anything any other scientist has ever written.
we shouldn't have to sneak around and offer up bribes to find this stuff.
Well, we were never promised full transparency about these past events. I agree that it's good to have this information; that's why I've been seeking it out when I can. But I'm not surprised that we wouldn't be told. I don't know how your country manages sensitive information, but the idea that people are owed the truth about historical events would be a laughable notion where I come from.
It's my guess that the governments of those eras buried this information because they wanted it to stay buried, from everyone probably. And judging by the forbidden books I've read that were written more recently, it doesn't seem like attitudes have changed much in that regard.
in theory, we have laws that let us get relevant information from the government. in practice... eh that's another matter. it's a whole different scenario though. and there's a lot of people who will fight to prevent history from being covered up.
they could just... unforbid them though. so we don't have to go about it so surreptitiously. idk i guess that's something to take up at the embassy. i know you can't change it. :( thanks for talking with me though. i have to go think on this some more.

In any case, thank you for sharing that recording with me. I'll let you know if I find out anything else that might be of interest, too.
